Bowman Chrome
The 2009 Bowman Chrome baseball set is scheduled to be released in mid-September and should give collectors many coveted up and coming rookie and prospect cards. The Bowman Chrome sets from Topps are known for their prospect cards every year and this year is no different. The 2009 base set includes 220 cards and there are 110 new prospects and 22 autographed prospects.
The 220 cards that make up the base set include 190 veteran players and 30 rookie cards. The 110 regular prospect cards consist of 70 players currently in the minors (or recently called up) trying to work their way up to the major leagues, and 40 international players who participated in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Base cards and prospects are found at a rate of two of each per pack. Autographed prospects are seeded at a rate of one per hobby box and all autographs are signed directly on the cards as many sportscard collectors disliked the autographed stickers put on some cards.
All 220 base cards and all 110 prospect cards will have 1 of 1 printing plates. There are four different printing plates for each card and these can only be found in hobby packs. Twenty of the autographed prospect cards will have autographed printing plates. Like the rest of the printing plates, the autographed prospect plates will be one of one and hobby exclusive.
If you are familiar with Bowman Chrome cards from previous year, you probably already know that there are several different parallel sets. The 2009 Bowman Chrome set has a regular refractor parallel set with each card numbered out of 500, an X-Fractor parallel set with each card numbered to 250, a Blue Refractor parallel set with cards numbered to 150, a Gold Refractor set with the cards numbered out of 50, an Orange Refractor set with cards numbered to 25, a Red Refractor set with the cards numbered out of 5 and the Super-Fractor parallel set with it's one of one cards. The Super-Fractor cards can only be found in hobby packs.
A few of the key cards in the set include autographed prospect cards of Tommy Hanson of the Atlanta Braves, Brett Anderson of the Oakland A's and Ryan Perry of the Detroit Tigers. Some other very interesting cards include autographed cards of Ernie Banks because of his name (even though he is of no relation to the Hall of Famer of the same name) and Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospects Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel. Singh and Patel were contestants on a reality baseball TV show in India and are the first Indian born players to ever sign a contract with a major league team. 2009 Bowman Chrome should be another fun set to collect.
